Description

The game is a versus action game focused around manipulating a ball around for various objectives. When you start the game, you get to choose between three Zones (ie. objectives): Arena of Death has you trying to hit the other player with the ball, Building Breaker has you trying to take down enemy-colored buildings by knocking the ball into them many times, and Goal Shoot-out is a 3v3 (2 CPUs on each team) soccer-esque mode where the goal is to shoot the ball into the enemy goal.

Plasma Ball

Overview & History

Developed as a challenging, high-voltage sci-fi action platformer, *Plasma Ball* was quietly released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) during the twilight years of the 8-bit generation. Obscured by massive 16-bit console launches, this hidden gem tasked players with guiding an experimental energy sphere named Ion through the labyrinthine corridors of the Cyber-Core Dyson Sphere. The central conflict revolves around stopping the rogue sentient mainframe, Omega, which has weaponized the station's core magnetic fields to corrupt all mechanical life forms across the galaxy.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard NES platformers, *Plasma Ball* abandons traditional bipedal heroes for pure momentum-based physics. Players navigate five sprawling stages by bouncing, sliding, and magnetizing off metallic surfaces using a unique inertia engine. Ion’s primary offensive move is the 'Surge Pulse,' a directional blast that clears minor hazards but depletes the core energy meter. To replenish this vital gauge, players must absorb stray electrical currents scattered throughout the environment while dodging volatile plasma hazards. Boss battles require mastering the 'Polarity Shift' mechanic, switching between positive and negative charges to repel incoming projectile barrages or activate heavy kinetic doors.
