Description

The rebellion orchestrated by General Morden to bring about a new global regime is now ancient history, and order and peace has begun to return to the world. Morden, brought back into power, was attempting another coup d’état, but government forces got wind of the plot beforehand and pre-empted the impending assault.
Instrumental in squashing Morden’s rebel forces, Marco and Tarma of the Peregrine Falcon Strike Force are ordered to lead the team after their earlier requests for resignation were denied. Although General Morden has been written off as “missing” by his followers, they have hidden themselves throughout the world, and Marco and Tarma’s abilities and experience are seen as a necessity to destroy remaining rebel strongholds, one by one. Throughout the furious fighting against the holdouts, Marco and Tarma cannot help but suspect Morden’s involvement in this new evil plan for world domination.

Metal Slug 3

Overview & History

Released by SNK in 2000 for the Neo Geo AES home console, Metal Slug 3 is widely celebrated as the absolute pinnacle of the legendary run-and-gun arcade franchise. Designed by Nazca, this installment pushed the 16-bit hardware to its absolute visual limits with gorgeously hand-drawn, highly detailed sprites and delightfully chaotic destructible environments. The storyline takes the series to wonderfully bizarre cinematic extremes: following the defeat of General Morden, the Regular Army discovers that Morden has formed a sinister alliance with an extraterrestrial threat. Players must team up once again to thwart a full-scale alien invasion, battling their way through military bases, mutated crab-infested coastlines, subterranean caverns, and finally launching into low Earth orbit for a frantic, gravity-defying space battle.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Metal Slug 3 introduces unprecedented branching pathways to the series, allowing players to choose different routes within stages that drastically alter the environments, enemies, and boss encounters they face. The player roster expands from four to include Marco, Tarma, Eri, and Fio, each retaining the classic standard handgun and knife melee attack (which dynamically changes into unique close-quarters animations depending on the character). The iconic vehicle system gets a massive upgrade with a diverse armada of rides, including the versatile Slug Elephant (complete with a laser-firing attachment), the airborne Slug Copter, the towering Ostrich Slug, and the bizarre Drill Slug. Furthermore, the game introduces the infamous "Fat" status effect—triggered by eating too many in-game food items—which slows down movement and alters attacks into comical, heavy-hitting animations, alongside the terrifying Mummy and Zombie transformations that grant screen-clearing special attacks at the cost of reduced mobility.
