Description

One year after the events of Metal Slug 3, the world is trembling under the new threat of a mysterious but deadly cyber virus that threatens to attack and destroy any nation’s military computer system. With Tarma and Eri unable to help due to their own assignments in the matter, Marco and Fio are called in to investigate the situation and are joined by two newcomers, Nadia and Trevor. In their investigation, the group discovers that a terrorist organization known as Amadeus is behind the nefarious plot and that they head into battle against Amadeus’ forces, hoping to destroy the cyber virus before it gets the chance to wipe out the entire world’s military computer system.

The storyline shifts focus to a sinister new threat: a global cyber-terrorist syndicate known as the Amadeus Syndicate. This rogue faction has stolen a next-generation military AI and is actively weaponizing it alongside remnants of General Morden's rebel army. To combat this digital and physical apocalypse, series veterans Marco Rossi and Fio Germi are joined by two fresh faces: Trevor Spacey, a computer prodigy, and Nadia Cassel, an intrepid journalist turned soldier. Retaining the breathtaking hand-drawn sprite art and frantic arcade pacing that defined the IP, the Neo Geo AES release remains a prized collector's item.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Metal Slug 4 refines the chaotic, coin-munching action of its predecessors while introducing a few distinct gameplay mechanics. Players traverse five sprawling, visually diverse stages ranging from snowy mountain passes to high-tech underground bunkers. A major addition to this entry is the inclusion of the 'Bonus Point' scoring system, where players collect food items rapidly before a countdown timer expires to maximize their score. The weapon arsenal expands with devastating new firepower, including the Dual Machine Gun and the laser-heavy Sea-SICK rocket launcher. Transformative hazards return with a vengeance; getting hit by specific enemy attacks turns your soldier into a clumsy yet charming fat character (boosting your knife attack damage) or a slow-moving zombie who can unleash a screen-clearing 'vomit projectile' special. Iconic vehicles like the SV-001 tank are complemented by new mechanical mounts, including a walking bipedal walker and a heavily armed mobile-missile platform, ensuring the battlefield remains gloriously unpredictable.
