Cerebro, your advanced computer system, displays the different missions, all of which must be completed in order to accomplish your ultimate goal… the defeat of Magneto!
Working with Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler and Iceman, you select the best attack team for each battle based on their combination of superhuman skills.
The X-Men must work together as a team in both the 1 player and 2 player games. The 2 player game features simultaneous control where cooperation and teamwork are essential… but be careful; once one of your super heroes is immobilized, they’re out of action for the rest of the game. Good luck… humanity’s fate is in your hands!

Released by LJN in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, *The Uncanny X-Men* translates Marvel's premier mutant superhero team into an 8-bit action platformer developed by Toy Headquarters. Facing looming threats orchestrated by Magneto and the Boomerang-wielding villain group, players navigate a six-stage gauntlet stretching from the New York sewers to the treacherous Asteroid M. Although criticized upon release for its repetitive level design, frustrating collision detection, and unforgiving difficulty curve, the title has since earned a distinct cult following among retro collectors for its atmospheric soundtrack, surprisingly robust simultaneous two-player cooperative mode, and early adaptation of iconic comic lore before the definitive 1992 arcade and Genesis iterations popularized the franchise.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Players begin by selecting a duo of mutants from a roster comprising Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Iceman, with Professor X serving as a tactical dispatcher between stages. Each character boasts distinct traversal and combat traits: Wolverine utilizes lethal close-quarters claw slashes, Cyclops fires directional optic blasts, Storm harnesses lightning projectiles and flight capabilities, Colossus relies on heavy physical punches, Nightcrawler teleports short distances through barriers, and Iceman hurls freezing ice bolts. The game unfolds from an overhead or side-scrolling perspective depending on the zone, requiring players to deactivate security systems, collect keycards, and survive relentless onslaughts of mutant-hunting Sentinels, Reavers, and classic boss encounters like the Juggernaut and Magneto.
