Description

An important message from Bart Simpson: Yo! When I heard I’d won the Krusty the Clown art contest, I said, “Forget it, man. This is Bart Simpson you’re talking to, and Bart Simpson never won anything in his life.” But Krusty said it, so there’s no way to deny it. My family and I get to go on this really cool worldwide Treasure Hunt – to China, Egypt, the North Pole and Hollywood. And I need your help if I want to reach my final destination: a guest appearance on the Itchy and Scratchy Show.

Here’s the deal: I have to collect Krusty faces and Krusty products. The faces are worth bonuses and power-ups, and if I collect all the products I get a special reward. Oh yeah, one other thing: If somebody tries to mess with me, they’ll wish they hadn’t, because I’m taking along plenty of firecracker balls. And if that’s not enough… let’s just say Bartman has the power of flight. Any questions? Good. Wish me luck, man. I’m outta here. Your friend, Bart Simpson.

The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World

Overview & History

Released by Acclaim Entertainment in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, *The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World* was developed by Imagineering as the second NES title based on the cultural phenomenon. The storyline centers around a global scavenger hunt sponsored by the sinister Mr. Burns and the globally roaming Krusty the Clown. After winning a multi-national contest at the local Kwik-E-Mart, Bart Simpson earns an all-expenses-paid trip around the world. Unbeknownst to Bart, the entire contest is an elaborate trap orchestrated by the Springfield nuclear plant owner and his cronies. Bart must traverse iconic international locations—including China, the North Pole, Egypt, and Hollywood—to defeat members of the Burns family tree and foil their capitalist global domination plot.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike its platforming predecessor, this title incorporates a world map where players select stages themed after different continents. The gameplay blends side-scrolling platform action with diverse mini-games between major levels. Bart’s primary offensive maneuver is throwing firecrackers, which can be upgraded and hurled in multiple directions to dispatch enemies like ninja goons and animated snowmen. Players also collect Krusty faces for extra lives and hidden Squishee cups to replenish health. In addition to standard jumping and dodging, Bart can occasionally don disguises or pilot vehicles to clear specific obstacles. Interspersed bonus stages include retro arcade-style challenges like matching pairs of iconic Springfield characters or dodging falling debris, pushing the NES hardware to deliver varied, fast-paced cartoon action.
