Description

You’re Zed, half man, half cyborg. The one-man battalion with a human heart and a computer’s brain. Can you blast your way alone through 27 battle zones to liberate the desperate people of the planet Altile from the evil invader Xur? Xur has seized the weather control station; it’s bitter cold, and the people have fled underground. He knows you’ve landed. No turning back. You must recover an arsenal of 12 different weapons and 6 powers hidden on Altile. Megaton bombs, life vests, hyper missiles, super boots, cross-fires, super bombs, energy capsules, life pods, power balls… Master each to save yourself from a continuing barrage of 20 deadly enemies. Wisps, Wanes, Tracers, Strinkers, Skraugs, the Globula, Gholem, Viripides… They’re mean, they’re ugly, and they’re after you. Flying. Dive-bombing. Writhing. Grabbing. Find the keys, or you’re blocked in a battle zone forever. Find the hidden chalice and be saved from eternal doom. Hit the switch. This is war!

RoboWarrior

Overview & History

Released by Jaleco in 1988 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, RoboWarrior (known in Japan as Exerion II: Zzonark) is a unique blend of top-down scrolling shooter and maze-exploration adventure. Players take control of Zxintth, a heavily armed cyborg warrior sent on a desperate mission to save the peaceful planet Galax from the ruthless Xain empire. Armed with a terraforming bomb and an expanding arsenal of weaponry, Zxintth must traverse hostile alien landscapes to destroy planetary defense nodes. While initially overlooked during the NES golden era due to its steep difficulty and unconventional genre-mashing, the game has since gained a cult following for its distinct post-apocalyptic aesthetic, combining organic alien biomes with industrial machinery.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard side-scrolling shooters, RoboWarrior operates from a fixed top-down perspective where Zxintth constantly moves forward through scrolling labyrinths. Survival requires careful resource management: players must constantly consume power pills to maintain their energy levels, which drain over time and deplete faster when taking damage or firing weapons. Zxintth's primary offensive tool is his arm cannon, which can be upgraded with power-ups found hidden within destructible terrain or purchased using energy currency. Additionally, players can drop powerful bombs to blast through walls, clear clusters of enemies, and uncover hidden rooms containing vital upgrades and score bonuses. The game is divided into distinct zones, each culminating in a tense boss encounter that demands precise positioning and heavy firepower.
