You are lost in a dark, perilous, and enchanted forest. Dark dangerous mushrooms push up through the squishy forest floor, snaring you on every side. Something slimy flashes through the mushrooms, moving in on you. The MILLIPEDE, not a normal size one, but the gigantic monster, is attacking you. All you have to fight back with is the magic arrow. Shoot his head to turn him into mushrooms. But that is not the only thing attacking you, there are more creepy, crawly, buzzing, swarming, creatures in this forest. Keep fighting with your magic arrow, if you are lucky, you may survive. Watch out, here they come.

Millipede

Overview & History

Released by Atari in 1987, the NES port of Millipede brings the classic arcade trackball shooter to the d-pad. As the official sequel to Centipede, the game drops the player back into the bug-infested enchanted forest, tasking you with saving the flora from an escalating insect apocalypse. Unlike its predecessor, this home console version optimizes the frantic arcade action for standard controllers while maintaining the vibrant 8-bit aesthetic and relentless difficulty scaling.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Players control the "Archer," a diminutive bowman stationed at the bottom of the screen. Your primary objective is to eradicate an army of segmented millipedes, relentless spiders, stinging bees, and bouncing fleas that descend through a dense labyrinth of mushrooms. Shooting a mushroom destroys it, but it also regrows or changes color depending on the stage. The segmented millipede snakes its way downward, splitting into separate, independent hazards whenever a middle segment is blasted. Clearing all threats advances you to the next, faster-paced wave. Unique to Millipede are weather events and screen-clearing power-ups; shooting a glowing DDT bomb triggers a toxic explosion that eradicates nearby bugs and mushrooms in a chaotic chain reaction.
