Nick and Tom are two Princes living the dream with two beautiful princesses. When suddenly the evil King Scorch freezes Prince Nick and Tom and kidnaps the Princesses. Now Nick and Tom find themselves with abilities dealing with snow and ice. These two Snow Brothers will need to hunt down the evil King Scorch and rescue the princesses.

Snow Bros. is a fixed-screen platform game where players must defeat all enemies on each level (screen), 50 altogether. The Snow Bros use snow as their weapon, throwing it at the enemies to stun them. When lots of snow is thrown at an enemy, it becomes covered in a flurry and unable to move. These can be rolled into giant snowballs and pushed or kicked into other enemies. If left alone, enemies will eventually defrost and become angry at the player. The enemy filled snowballs are a much stronger weapon then the regular handful of snow and are the only effective weapon Nick and Tom have against the bosses.

Overview & History

Released by Toaplan in 1990 as an arcade coin-op, *Snow Brothers* made its way to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, courtesy of Capcom in North America and Tiny Toon developer SAS Sakata in Japan. The charming storyline follows twin royal snowmen, Nick and Tom, who must embark on a frosty rescue mission to save princesses Puripuri and Puchipuri from the clutches of the evil King Scorch, who has transformed the brothers into snowmen and cursed the land.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The game plays as a single-screen platformer heavily reminiscent of *Bubble Bobble*, spread across 50 distinct stages capped off by frantic boss battles. Nick and Tom do not jump on enemies to defeat them; instead, they fire streams of magical snow. Continuously hitting an enemy packs them into a giant snowball. Once fully rolled up, the player can kick the snowball, sending it careening across the level to bowl over other enemies in a satisfying chain reaction. Strategically timing these rolling snowballs clears the screen quickly and triggers helpful bonus items like potion bottles that increase movement speed, jump height, or snow power. Defeating multiple enemies at once also spawns cash and sushi items that spell out 'S-N-O-W' for extra lives.
