Description

After losing a confrontation against Super Commandos Mad Dog and Scorpion, the juices of destruction drip from the spiked tongue of the vile alien warmonger – Red Falcon. Now, he’s coming back stronger than ever, with a sinister plan that includes having his intergalactic warriors seep into the brains of the U.S. Army. To support his disguised forces of doom, he’s recruited Jagger Froid, a demented alien from the Black Hole Galaxy. He’s also shuttled in The Babula Destructoid Mechanism with its Beam of Death. With torrential terror about to rain down upon civilization, Earth’s only hope rests with you, Scorpion, and your pal, the Dogster. And if your spread guns, lasers, flame throwers and mega shells fail to destroy Red Falcon’s eight levels of terror, including radioactive lava fields, it’s all over but for the shouting, the screaming and the cries from a disintegrating world!

Super C

Overview & History

Released by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, Super C (known as *Probotector II* in Europe) serves as the direct sequel to the 1987 arcade and NES smash hit *Contra*. Set one year after the initial alien overthrow attempt on the Galuga Archipelago, the storyline thrusts elite hard-boiled commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean back into the fray. This time, the terrifying Red Falcon alien organization has brainwashed the remaining Earth defense forces, including their own comrade General John Iron, turning Earth's military into a hostile bio-mechanical horde. Spanning eight intense, side-scrolling and top-down stages, players must fight their way through heavily fortified jungle outposts, mutated swamp biomes, and infested alien lairs to obliterate the nest once and for all.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike the original game's alternating vertical and horizontal viewpoints, Super C introduces overhead bird’s-eye perspective stages (Stages 2 and 4), altering the strategic pacing by allowing full 360-degree aiming and character movement reminiscent of *Ikari Warriors*. The core gameplay loop remains famously unforgiving, requiring absolute memorization of enemy spawn points and bullet-hell projectile trajectories. Players collect iconic mid-air floating power-up pods designated by alphabet letters: the Rapid-fire Machine Gun (R), the wide-coverage Spread Gun (S), the explosive Fireball (F), and the newly introduced Homing Gun (H). Weapon stacking returns, alongside the barrier shield (B) for temporary invulnerability. The addition of the screen-clearing bomb attack—executed by picking up specific laser icons—offers desperate players a tactical nuke to wipe standard enemies off the grid.
