Released by Takeru and developed by Lenar in 1992, Little Samson is widely celebrated as one of the ultimate technological achievements and rarest gems on the Nintendo Entertainment System. The storyline unfolds in the peaceful kingdom of Hanmar, which is suddenly thrown into chaos when the dark prince Takolu escapes his mystical imprisonment, awakening ancient monsters to conquer the land. King Hans summons four unique heroes to stop the looming evil. Due to its late-era release, the game suffered from extremely low production numbers, making original cartridges among the most coveted collector's items in retro gaming today. The game pushes the 8-bit NES hardware to its absolute limits with gorgeous sprite art, parallax scrolling backgrounds, and an unforgettable, atmospheric soundtrack composed by Hiroyuki Masuya.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Little Samson is an action-platformer that stands out by allowing players to seamlessly swap between four distinct characters on the fly, each with their own health bars, movement styles, and offensive abilities. Samson, a courageous young boy, uses a hammer and has wall-climbing dexterity. Gahl, a heavily armored dragon, deals devastating long-range fire breath and flies for short bursts. K.O., a nimble mouse, can crawl into tight spaces and hurl explosive bombs. Finally, Volg, a majestic rock-golem, boasts immense physical strength and fires powerful homing energy projectiles. Players must strategically leverage each character's strengths to conquer intricate platforming challenges, defeat massive screen-filling bosses, and navigate non-linear stage selection segments before facing Takolu.
