Description

You are Amy and your mission leads you to the rooftops high above the town’s not so pleasant districts.

So, take your trusty taser and electrocute all evil scumbags that stand in your way. Show those muscle-headed Goons and them jumpy Paradudes who’s boss. Use your agility to pass over deep and dangerous gaps and outrun that pesky helicopter.

It’s a tough job, but not all is dire: There’s your best friend Rachel waiting in the middle of the action to provide you some useful items to help you on your way.

You’ll need it since it’s only a matter of time until bad girl Scarlett bothers you again or you’ll have to face another one of the Jumbos.

Do you have the guts and the skills to rid the City of the Jackal Gang in this fast-paced arcade action game?

City Trouble

Overview & History

Developed as an obscure gem within the late-era unlicensed NES library, *City Trouble* drops players straight into a gritty, neon-lit urban warzone. Released independently during the 16-bit transition, the game pushed the 8-bit hardware to its absolute limits by rendering frantic, fast-paced metro-brawling action. The storyline follows Agent Vance, a rogue urban operative tasked with dismantling a syndicate of cybernetic crime lords who have seized control of the city’s central power grid. Rather than utilizing standard platforming tropes, *City Trouble* leans heavily into a gritty noir aesthetic, combining industrial synth music with heavily detailed, destructible environmental sprites that captured the chaotic spirit of late 80s arcade action.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike traditional linear beat-em-ups, *City Trouble* implements a dynamic dual-plane movement system, allowing Vance to dodge into the background to evade incoming gunfire or flank heavily armored enemies. The game features seven sprawling levels filled with interactive hazards, ranging from volatile electrical conduits to patrolling SWAT drones. Character moveset depth is surprisingly robust for an NES title: players can execute rapid melee combos, slide underneath low-flying projectile attacks, and unleash a screen-clearing EMP blast when the tension meter is maxed out. Boss encounters require strategic exploitation of environmental weaknesses, ensuring that button-mashing alone leads to a swift game-over screen. Weapon pick-ups—including localized scatterguns and plasma batons—add crucial tactical variety to each grueling stage.
