Fun House is a race against the clock where only the skilled can survive. Clock’s running low? Find a lightning bolt to gain speed or pick up an alarm clock for some extra time. Better yet, find the hidden warp zones and short cut to the next maze. But watch out for the banana launchers and glob guns which will take away some of your precious time.

Can you avoid the obstacles? Can you rollerblade on icy floors or up slime covered ramps? Can you collect enough coins to earn another pair of skates? The mission’s yours. Remember… only those who think fast and move quickly will survive this sticky mess. Will you?

Released by Hi-Tech Expressions in 1991, Fun House is a bizarre and chaotic platformer based on the popular Nickelodeon children's game show hosted by JD Roth. Capturing the frantic, messy energy of the television broadcast, the game tasks players with frantically racing through heavily themed rooms to collect prize tags, evade obstacles, and beat the clock. Unlike traditional action-platformers of the era, the primary goal revolves around thorough exploration and item retrieval rather than combat, translating the studio-set madness into a race-against-time digital experience.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Players navigate through a multi-room television stage packed with iconic zones like the bathroom, kitchen, and workshop. The core mechanic relies on gathering a specific quota of prize tags hidden behind household items, under furniture, or suspended in mid-air. Along the way, players must constantly manage a rapidly draining countdown timer while dodging moving hazards such as runaway shopping carts, bouncing balls, and slippery soapy floors. Because you play as a contestant, you also have to grab elusive bonus items like the hidden pink flamingo to unlock secret point multipliers. The controls demand precise platforming; pressing up allows your contestant to climb ladders, while holding the action button lets you grab and toss objects scattered across the floor to clear paths or stun pesky environmental hazards.
