Description

Michael Knight and his special talking car K.I.T.T, aka the Knight Industries Two Thousand, are contacted by Devon with another mission. A U.S. military site has been raided and the P.I.V. bomb stolen by terrorists. By following their projected route, KITT and Michael must race across the roadways of the United States.

Riding in KITT down the highways, you’ll be trying to beat the clock to reach your destinations mostly. KITT, however is the car of the future and doesn’t go about unarmed. A Gun weapon, Missiles, Laser and a Jumping ability will all help you. KITT absorbs damage in it’s internal shielding and once that’s gone, you lose a life. However Devon has contacted other agents of FLAG who will be on the same roadways and will drop power-ups to restore ammo and shields to KITT.

Knight Rider

Overview & History

Released by Acclaim Entertainment in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Knight Rider adapts the iconic 1980s television show starring David Hasselhoff. Developed by Pack-In-Video, the game thrusts players into the role of Michael Knight, operative for the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG). Tasked by Devon Miles, Michael and his sentient, indestructible Pontiac Trans Am, K.I.T.T., must dismantle a sprawling criminal syndicate led by the nefarious mastermind Garthe Knight and his juggernaut Goliath. While the show focused on high-tech espionage and witty banter, the NES adaptation leans heavily into vehicular combat, side-scrolling action, and top-down driving segments across various American cities.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The game uniquely splits its action into two distinct styles. During transit phases, players view K.I.T.T. from an overhead perspective, dodging civilian traffic, collecting fuel power-ups, and blasting enemy vehicles with lasers. When arriving at mission hubs, the gameplay shifts to a side-scrolling platformer where Michael Knight must infiltrate enemy hideouts on foot. In this mode, Michael can jump over obstacles and punch thugs, but his true strength lies in calling upon K.I.T.T. for backup or using the Turbo Boost to leap across massive chasms. Resource management is critical; players must monitor K.I.T.T.'s structural integrity, fuel levels, and Turbo Boost charges, as running out of either results in an immediate mission failure. Boss encounters against armored trucks and heavily armed installations demand precise timing and aggressive firepower.
