Here they come. And there they go. They just keep coming, you gotta make ’em go away. When you signed on as an intergalactic immigration officer you figured it was an easy way to make some money. You were wrong. Transporting wave after wave of weird wild life from all over the universe is anything but easy. You gotta line ’em up to move ’em out. Up and down, left and right, or diagonally you gotta make the clumps of critters move out faster than they move in. If the room fills to capacity, that’s it, the entire system will be shut down. One of the most exciting games of the year, it’s more fun than a barrel full of creatures!

Overview & History

Released in 1990 by American Video Entertainment for the Nintendo Entertainment System, *Krazy Kreatures* is an eccentric and largely overlooked puzzle-action hybrid. Developed during the era of unlicensed NES titles, the game eschewed traditional platforming tropes in favor of a frantic, grid-based matching concept starring an absurd roster of bizarre, rubbery monsters and ghouls. While it never achieved the mainstream fame of *Tetris* or *Dr. Mario*, its unique aesthetic and frantic pacing carved out a cult following among retro puzzle collectors.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The core gameplay revolves around clearing a rising stack of bizarre creatures before they breach the top of the screen. Unlike standard falling-block puzzlers, players control a cursor moving across a grid, swapping and matching adjacent monsters horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. As the levels progress, the speed escalates drastically, requiring lightning-fast pattern recognition. Special power-up tiles introduce chaotic elements, such as board-clearing bombs or freezing curses that temporarily halt the creature ascent. The game features multiple difficulty tiers and a competitive two-player head-to-head mode where sending garbage rows to your opponent is the key to survival.
