Description

Time to sharpen the blade! NOVA is suddenly called to take action against a cyborg army. The Delta Foundation has developed a line of fighting robots that pose a threat to national security. NOVA has been picked to eliminate the danger by destroying the Delta Foundation – all five locations. Fortunately, he will be using different suits which give him the ability to walk on ceilings, swim long distances, and fly – not to mention the latest top secret suit. And of course, NOVA will be wielding the ancient Power Blade, a weapon of art and science. He must draw on all his skills and cunning to defeat these near-perfect fighting machines!

Power Blade 2

Overview & History

Released by Taito for the Nintendo Entertainment System in late 1992, Power Blade 2 is the sci-fi action-platforming sequel to the cult-classic original. Developed by Natsume, the game swaps the rugged Australian outback setting of the first installment for a sprawling, hyper-futuristic metropolis controlled by the malevolent mega-corporation, Nova. Players once again assume the role of Nova, a cybernetic security agent tasked with infiltrating heavily fortified industrial zones to dismantle a rogue computer network. Unlike its predecessor's linear stage select, this sequel allows players to tackle the first four stages in any desired order, adding a layer of strategic progression reminiscent of the Mega Man series, capped off by intense, multi-tiered boss encounters that push the 8-bit hardware to its absolute limit.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Nova retains his signature weapon—a high-tech boomerang—which can now be aimed in eight directions, allowing for sophisticated crowd control against swarming mechanical threats. The biggest gameplay evolution in Power Blade 2 is the introduction of four distinct, collectible power suits. Each suit grants Nova game-changing traversal abilities and specialized offensive capabilities, such as scaling vertical walls with magnetic boots, hovering across massive chasms with jet thrusters, or firing concentrated plasma blasts that pierce through heavy enemy armor. Environmental hazards, moving platforms, and relentless enemy spawn rates demand precise timing and spatial awareness. Collecting hidden data cards scattered throughout the labyrinthine levels increases Nova's maximum health and unlocks devastating screen-clearing special attacks, rewarding thorough exploration.
