Flea!

Overview & History

Developed by Lowtek Games and originally released as an authentic homebrew title for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 2020, *Flea!* is a punishing, precision-based platformer that marries retro nostalgia with modern masocore difficulty. The storyline follows Henry, an enthusiastic yet fragile flea who lives deep inside a massive, grotesque dog's fur coat. When the king of the fleas bans jumping—the very thing Henry loves most—he embarks on a perilous quest through bizarre subterranean anatomical biomes to overthrow the tyrannical monarch and reclaim his right to leap.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard platformers where a character stands still, Henry is in a state of constant, automatic bouncing. Players cannot control when he jumps; instead, the core mechanic revolves around timing directional movement, Wall-sliding, and navigating a labyrinth of razor-sharp obstacles, moving buzz-saws, and toxic pools. Mastery requires an intimate understanding of Henry's continuous arc physics. Scattered throughout each claustrophobic stage are collectible blood drops and hidden secret areas that expand the lore. The game features vibrant, chunky 8-bit pixel art, an energetic chiptune soundtrack by Triple Score, and a password progression system that lets players pick up right where their frustration left off.
