Description

The year is 2020 A.D. The evil drug kingpin Pitbull and his army of robots and brainwashed servants have crippled the law enforcement agencies of the world. You must seek out and destroy his communication and computer centers thus putting an end to his evil network of shipping and distribution. As you confront Pitbull’s dealers and robotic “Cyborg” servants you will seize their drugs and money. The money will enable you to purchase the tools needed to overcome the obstacles in your path. Don’t let the beauty of the streets fool you, for you are about to enter a world of laser beams, exploding mines and secret entrances. Engage your enemies as you traverse through the Pier, the Streets of Technopolis, and the Warehouse searching for clues. You will encounter more danger as you pilot a boat across the Swamp and travel through Space to an eventual confrontation with Pitbull himself in the Computer Center!

Released in 1989 by Color Dreams, Raid 2020 is an unlicensed, dystopian side-scrolling action game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Set in a bleak, near-future Philadelphia overrun by drug cartels and crime lords, the game puts players in the combat boots of Joe, a heavily armed vigilante. Color Dreams developed the title during the height of the NES era as part of their crusade to bypass Nintendo's official seal of quality and strict content guidelines. Because of this, the game tackles mature, gritty themes rarely seen on the platform, featuring urban street thugs, heavily fortified gang hideouts, and a satirical, hard-boiled narrative about cleaning up America's streets.

Unlike standard run-and-gun platformers, Joe has access to a specialized arsenal that can be upgraded by collecting hidden cash dropped by defeated punks. Players must carefully manage ammunition and health pickups while dodging environmental hazards and projectile-firing enemies. The game is notoriously difficult, requiring precise platforming and swift reflexes to survive relentless enemy onslaughts.
