Description

It’s the year 2029 and humanity faces certain extinction! An alien force led by the Supreme Commander Vile Malmort is positioned to destroy the earth.
The President had little time to act. He assembled the greatest scientists from around the globe to stop this menace. From their laboratory came mankind’s last hope – the members of S.C.A.T.
The Special Cybernetic Attack Team has one goal: the utter destruction of the alien fleet. “They’ve sent an armada to conquer us. We’ve sent two warriors from S.C.A.T… It should be a fair fight.”

S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team

Overview & History

Released by Natsume in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, *S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team* is a sci-fi run-and-gun side-scroller known in PAL regions as *Action Zeta* and in Japan as *Final Mission*. Set in the year 2029, the Earth faces annihilation from an extraterrestrial invasion led by the ruthless supreme entity Supreme Vile. To combat this cosmic menace, humanity deploys the elite Special Cybernetic Attack Team, featuring augmented heroes Arnold and Sigourney (plus King and Ryan in the Japanese version). Players navigate through five intense stages, from ruined urban skylines to organic alien motherships, battling a relentless barrage of biomechanical horrors with a distinct aesthetic reminiscent of *Contra* mixed with *R-Type*.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard side-scrollers, *S.C.A.T.* introduces a unique directional-locking mechanic. Using the controller, players can hold a button to lock their movement in place while freely rotating their weapon's firing angle across a 360-degree arc, allowing for precise attacks against airborne swarms and crawling ground turrets alike. Accompanied by two orbiting drone options that mimic your fire and provide shields, characters can collect weapon power-ups like the Flame Gun, Laser, and Wide Shot. Mobility is heightened by jetpacks, giving the characters a floating, gravity-defying movement style over bottomless chasms. The game supports a simultaneous two-player cooperative mode, making the chaotic alien eradication significantly more manageable and doubling the explosive firepower on screen.
