Description

It’s survival of the fastest in the prehistoric land of Og. That crazy, one-eyed caveman, the Trog, is hungry… and dinos Spike and Bloop know what that means: RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! Here’s your chance to change the course of history and save the dinosaurs. Don’t become Trog’s Stone Age feast! Instead, use your reflexes and wits racing through 50 fun-filled islands, packed with dino-mite action and surprises. You’ll witness the greatest inventions of all time: fire, the wheel, the pogo stick (the pogo stick?) – all invented by Trog to catch his dinner – you! Just watch out for the Tar Pits… sticky business. You’ve got special pick-ups to keep that carnivorous chow hound in check, like pineapples that turn you into a ferocious Trog-munching T-Rex. It’s like this: either you save the Dinos… or you’re extinct!

Trog!

Overview & History: Originally developed by Bally Midway as a claymation arcade sensation in 1990, Trog! was ported to the NES in 1991 by Acclaim and Software Creations. Set in the prehistoric land of Og, the game follows two adorable dinosaurs, Spike and Bloop, who are being hunted by a clan of hungry, one-eyed cavemen known as Trogs. This home console port translates the original's quirky claymation charm into vibrant 8-bit sprites, delivering an addictive, puzzle-like experience.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

In Trog!, gameplay revolves around single-screen maze navigation. Players must collect all matching colored eggs scattered across grid-based levels to open the exit portal before time runs out. Cavemen constantly pursue you, utilizing tools like clubs, fire, and wheels. To fight back, you can execute a quick punch to knock Trogs back, lure them off the edges of the island, or trick them into falling into tar pits. Grabbing a pineapple power-up temporarily mutates your dinosaur into a giant, invincible T-Rex, allowing you to munch your pursuers for massive bonus points. Various other items, like freeze plants and speed-up leaves, help turn the tide. With 50 distinct stages, secret bonus rounds, and a chaotic two-player co-op mode, survival requires both quick reflexes and smart pathfinding.
