Originally developed by ICOM Simulations as part of the acclaimed MacVenture series, Uninvited was masterfully ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System by Kemco in 1991. The game plunges players into a gothic horror mystery. After crashing their car to avoid a mysterious figure, the protagonist awakens to find their sister missing and the vehicle engulfed in flames. Seeking help, they enter a sinister, dilapidated mansion that once belonged to a powerful sorcerer and his corrupted apprentices. Players must explore this haunted, labyrinthine estate to rescue their sibling before she falls victim to a dark sacrifice, all while battling a creeping demonic curse that threatens to possess the protagonist if they linger too long.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Uninvited utilizes a classic first-person point-and-click interface adapted seamlessly for the NES controller. Players interact with the mansion through an on-screen cursor and an eight-command menu: Look, Take, Open, Close, Use, Move, Speak, and Leave. Progress relies on keen observation, pixel-hunting for hidden items, and solving cryptic, multi-step puzzles. Players must manage a carrying inventory to hold essential tools like the No-Ghost aerosol, magical spells, and protective amulets. The mansion is filled with instant-death traps—such as the iconic, horrifying Apparition in the hallway or a deceptive ruby ring—requiring trial, error, and strategic saving to survive. Navigating the estate requires unlocking doors, dispelling spirits, and solving environmental riddles before the mansion's evil consumes your soul.
