Description

The President of the United States has put you in charge of stopping the trafficking of drugs into the United States. To accomplish this, you pilot a Firehawk helicopter gunship through seven missions that involve rescuing agents and destroying drug producing facilities. When flying you survey the whole landscape from a top down view. However, this view changes to a 3rd person perspective when you are extracting an agent with your helicopter winch.

Firehawk

Overview & History

Released by Codemasters in 1992 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, *Firehawk* serves as the sequel to the unlicensed helicopter shooter *Super Robin Hood*. Developed by the Oliver twins, the game tasks pilot Stone with a global environmental and humanitarian mission. Instead of standard military combat, your objective is to infiltrate dangerous zones, rescue stranded hostages, extinguish out-of-control fires, and recover stolen toxic waste containers. Because Codemasters utilized their proprietary "Aladdin" cartridge hardware, the game bypassed official Nintendo licensing chips, becoming a memorable, high-ambition late-era title for collectors.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike traditional vertical or horizontal scrolling shoot 'em ups, *Firehawk* offers sprawling, multi-directional map exploration. Piloting the titular armed chopper, you must carefully balance your fuel and ammunition reserves, landing at designated pads to refuel, rearm, and drop off rescued personnel or hazardous materials. The screen layout features a split-design HUD showing your radar, cargo capacity, and environmental status. Players face a relentless barrage of enemy turrets, tanks, and rival aircraft while navigating tricky wind currents and tight terrain. Success requires precision hovering, strategic weapon management—switching between machine guns and specialized payload drops—and careful route planning to ensure you don't run dry over hostile territory.
