Description

In this Arcade game the gameplay is quite simple, the hero, named “Milk” must get all the fruits in the screen in order to free his girlfriend (don’t ask me what’s the relation) who is captured inside of a house. Your rival “‘Nuts” will try to keep you away from your goal. To obtain the fruit, Milk will climb up ladders and jump onto different platforms.

Points are earned by obtaining the fruit, jumping over Nuts and completing the level in the shortest amount of time (obtaining the Bonus score value). Two game modes are included as well as a level editor.

Nuts & Milk

Overview & History

Released by Hudson Soft in 1983 for the Famicom and later brought to the NES, Nuts & Milk holds the distinction of being Hudson's very first console game and one of the earliest third-party titles on Nintendo's hardware. The storyline casts you as Milk, a cheerful, pink blob-like creature on a perilous mission to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend, Yogurt, from the clutches of the mischievous green rival, Nuts. Set across a series of single-screen, platform-puzzle stages, the game blends classic early-80s arcade conventions with vertical platforming exploration. While it initially shared code development roots with early MSX computer prototypes, the final NES version solidified a legacy of charming, grid-based puzzle design that predates many defining tropes of the platforming genre.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Gameplay revolves around collecting all the hidden strawberries scattered across each static stage before a countdown timer expires, all while avoiding Nuts and his patrolling bouncy henchmen. Milk possesses a modest repertoire: he can run left and right, climb vines and ladders, and execute a quirky, fixed-height jump. Crucially, Milk cannot jump while running horizontally; he must leap straight up from a stationary position, adding a layer of strategic timing to every movement. Players can temporarily stun Nuts by leaping over him or by utilizing strategically placed springboards and trapdoors that alter the vertical layout of the level. Each screen acts as a self-contained logic puzzle where routing, hazard avoidance, and precise positioning dictate success. With multiple rounds of escalating difficulty and a catchy, upbeat chiptune soundtrack, Nuts & Milk delivers a deceptively deep, fast-paced puzzle-platforming challenge.
