Description

You are Superman.

Wherever there’s trouble in the great city of Metropolis, Superman soars into action. The incredible hero from the doomed planet Krypton fights a never-ending battle against all manner of evil men and monsters who threaten our world’s safety and security.

Now you can become the man of steel and crusade against crime and injustice. Enter the phone booth as Clark Kent, reporter for the Daily Planet, and emerge as Superman. Use an awesome array of super-powers, including flight, heat vision and super-breath to foil the plans of an army of villains. You’ll face racketeers, robots and arch-nemesis Lex Luthor. Finding the Power Crystal increases your otherworldly abilities but, look out—don’t mistake it for deadly Kryptonite.

Superman

Released in North America in 1988 by Kemco, Superman for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is an action-adventure title loosely based on the first two feature films. The narrative centers on Lex Luthor and three escaped criminals from the Phantom Zone—General Zod, Ursa, and Non—who have plunged Metropolis into chaos. As mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent, players must navigate a sprawling, semi-open-world depiction of Metropolis, gathering intel at the Daily Planet before transforming into the Man of Steel to thwart catastrophic threats.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The gameplay deviates from standard side-scrollers by incorporating puzzle-solving, Metroidvania-lite exploration, and a unique health system. Players start as vulnerable Clark Kent and must locate phone booths to transform into Superman. This transformation grants access to an arsenal of iconic superpowers, including Heat Vision, X-Ray Vision, Super Flight, and Super Spin, each mapped to a consumable "Super Power" (SP) meter. If Superman sustains too much damage, he reverts back to Clark Kent rather than losing a life, rendering him vulnerable to basic street thugs. Navigating Metropolis requires utilizing a subterranean subway system to travel between districts, solving environmental puzzles, and rescuing captured allies like Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen.
