Alan Grant, world-renowned palaeontologist, your adventure begins on an island off Central America, where visitors are invited to experience the terrifying wonders of this untamed primitive world in complete safety… until something goes terribly wrong.

A computer malfunction has caused the release of hundreds of fearsome prehistoric predators. Vicious raptors, spitters and tyrannosaurs are threatening to overrun even the fortified visitors compound… and two children, Tim and Lex, are lost in the island’s jungle wilderness. To find them and rescue them, you’ll have to face some of history’s most powerful and deadly carnivores.

The perilous primeval world of JURASSIC PARK awaits!

Jurassic Park

Overview & History

Released by Ocean Software in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Jurassic Park adapts Michael Crichton's sci-fi thriller into an isometric and top-down action-adventure. Unlike the later SNES adaptation, the NES version uniquely casts Dr. Alan Grant on a desperate, solitary survival mission across Isla Nublar. Players must collect dinosaur eggs, deactivate rogue automated defense systems, and ultimately escape the island via helicopter before John Hammond's resort becomes a permanent graveyard. The game captures a distinct 8-bit isolation, contrasting the blockbuster movie's scale with claustrophobic, maze-like jungle and facility maps.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The game alternates between top-down exploration and nerve-wracking first-person indoor sequences. As Dr. Grant, players start with a standard stun baton and must scavenge the environment for deadlier armaments like gas grenades, rockets, and the signature tranquilizer gun to deal with relentless Velociraptors, Dilophosaurs, and the apex Tyrannosaurus Rex. Dr. Grant can run, fire weapons in eight directions, and interact with computer terminals. A vital resource management mechanic requires players to collect security passcards to unlock electric gates and doors. The isometric stages feature tricky terrain elevation, while the first-person intervals require quick trigger reflexes as dinosaurs lunge out of the dark. Health is represented by a heart meter, and lives are severely limited, making cautious tactical movement essential for survival.
