You’d better. Or it will be your blood that spills in the jungle. As Major “Dutch” Schaefer, you face a deadly alien creature that skins men alive and collects human skulls-just for the thrill of the hunt. It shows no mercy. It knows no pain. And now the Predator that wasted all your men is coming after you.

Awesome firepower at your fingertips. Use machine guns, grenades and laser rifles to blow through 30 stages of raw, destroy-or-be-destroyed action.

It’s a bloody life-and-death struggle with the alien creature of destruction. Only one of you will make it.

Predator

Overview & History

Released by Activision in 1988 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Predator adapts the iconic 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action film into an 8-bit side-scrolling experience. Developed by Sunsoft, the game deviates wildly from standard movie tie-ins by blending linear platforming stages with overhead labyrinth exploration and pseudo-3D first-person sniper sequences. Players control Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer as he navigates the dense Central American jungle, rescuing trapped commandos and eventually facing the extraterrestrial hunter in single combat. Despite its infamous difficulty spike and cryptic level designs, it remains a cult-classic relic of the NES library, celebrated for its atmospheric 8-bit renditions of Alan Silvestri's iconic musical motifs and its surprisingly diverse gameplay loops that capture the cat-and-mouse tension of the source material.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The gameplay alternates between three distinct styles. Side-scrolling stages require Dutch to punch, kick, and shoot local wildlife and guerrilla soldiers while leaping across platforms. Overhead stages task the player with navigating dense foliage, entering huts to rescue hostages, and dodging relentless enemy fire until reaching a zone exit. Between stages, Dutch enters a first-person targeting minigame to snipe enemies lurking in the treeline. Players can collect power-ups to upgrade Dutch's arsenal from a basic pistol to a flamethrower, machine gun, and grenades. Health is tracked via a stamina meter, and failing to rescue enough hostages before boss encounters results in immediate failure. The final showdown requires players to master the timing of the Predator’s plasma caster blasts while retaliating with heavy gunfire in a grueling duel.
