Description

On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six year old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith’s Grove. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims.

This converts the game Friday the 13th into Halloween. Laurie has replaced the counselors, clowns replace the zombies, and Michael Myers replaces Jason. Spacial thanks to Sil3nt_J for the awesome spritework.

Halloween

Overview & History

Released by Wizard Video Games in 1983 for the Atari 2600, Halloween is a pioneering cinematic horror adaptation that translates John Carpenter’s iconic slasher film into interactive entertainment. Infamous in its time for its bleak atmosphere, graphic decapitation animations, and the relentless pulse of its 8-bit theme song, the game casts you as a babysitter navigating a multi-story suburban home. Your grim objective is to herd terrified children into safe rooms while evading the unstoppable Michael Myers, who stalks the corridors armed with a butcher knife, appearing suddenly whenever the screen cuts to black.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The gameplay revolves around tension management, room navigation, and urgent rescue operations. The house is structured horizontally and vertically across two floors, connected by stairs. As the player, you begin with a limited supply of flashlights and must continuously search rooms for the children, who wander aimlessly in a state of panic. Guiding a child requires holding their hand, slowing your movement speed as you escort them to designated safe zones. Michael Myers patrols the hallways, completely ignoring physical obstacles and teleporting between rooms to ambush you. If caught, the game triggers a gruesome sequence where your head vanishes alongside a flash of red. You can defend yourself by picking up strategically placed knitting needles or hammers scattered across the floor, which only stun the killer momentarily. Each time you rescue all the children, the difficulty ramps up, Michael moves faster, and the safety zones shift unpredictably.
