Description

We were gonna go to this GWAR concert. Then Anderson’s stupid dog, like, chewed up the tickets. Now you gotta help us find the pieces or somebody’s gonna pay for it. Probably Beavis. Van Driessen tried to teach us, like, history. But we outsmarted him. Couch fishing rules. Unless there’s something good on TV or something. Would you like flies to go with that mouseburger? Heh heh heh heh. At the Turbo Mall, you can meet wild creatures and stuff. Like us.

Beavis and Butt-Head

Overview & History

Released in 1994 by Viacom New Media for the Sega Game Gear, Beavis and Butt-Head translates Mike Judge’s iconic MTV slackers into a frantic, puzzle-heavy side-scrolling action game. Following their desperate quest to attend a GWAR concert, the dynamic duo accidentally tears their prized tickets into pieces, scattering them across Highland. Players must guide the metal-loving misfits through treacherous urban environments—ranging from Highland High School to the local mall and dump—to retrieve all the ticket fragments. While sharing thematic ties with its SNES and Genesis counterparts, the Game Gear version features unique level layouts, condensed sprites optimized for the handheld's smaller screen, and a distinct chiptune rendition of the show's signature guitar-heavy soundtrack.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard platformers where you jump on enemies, this game relies heavily on exploration, item interaction, and the distinct abilities of both characters. You simultaneously control both Beavis and Butt-Head, who are tethered to a fixed distance from one another. Players must frequently swap the active leader to solve environmental puzzles, throw projectiles like rocks and spitballs at obnoxious teachers, and avoid hazards like skateboarding bullies and aggressive guard dogs. Health is measured by their accumulated "coolness," and taking too much damage results in a hilarious slapstick animation. Hidden items, gross-out humor, and classic TV clips peppered throughout the progression faithfully capture the obnoxious charm of the original animated series, offering a surprisingly deep, item-driven adventure tailored for portable play.
