Released by Interplay Productions in 1991 exclusively for the Sega Game Gear, Casino FunPak brought the flashing neon lights of the Vegas Strip straight to Sega's portable 8-bit color handheld. Capitalizing on the early craze for bite-sized, pick-up-and-play compilation cartridges, this title stripped away complex RPG narratives and platforming plots, focusing purely on the high-stakes thrills of domestic gambling. While it lacked the link-cable multiplayer features of later handheld titles, it stood out in the Game Gear’s early library by offering a faithful, on-the-go simulation of casino staples, wrapped in a bright, chunky palette designed to show off the system’s revolutionary backlit screen.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Casino FunPak serves up a curated selection of four classic casino pastimes: Blackjack, Poker, Slots, and Egyptian-themed Keno. Players start with a modest bankroll and must manage their chips wisely across the different gaming floors. In Blackjack, players make standard hit, stand, double down, and split decisions against a computerized dealer utilizing standard house rules. The Poker mode relies on traditional five-card draw mechanics, challenging players to discard wisely and weigh pot odds.
