Description

Clutch Hitter is a typical baseball game which has all the Major League teams and their stats for the 1991 season. However, it does not have players names or team names. The game’s look is similar to R.B.I. Baseball and it is based off on Sports Talk Baseball for the Genesis. The length of the innings can be determined to choose from five, to seven, to the full nine innings and when batting the screen splits up to see both first and third base to keep an eye on the base runners.

The Game Gear version allows you to link two together and play against a friend.

Developed and published by Sega in 1991, Clutch Hitter made the daunting leap from arcade halls to the portable Sega Game Gear handheld system in 1992. Unlike standard sports titles that focus heavily on statistical management, Clutch Hitter is all about pure arcade action. The game offers exhibition modes and a tournament progression where players control heavily stylized, larger-than-life athletes. Pitching involves selecting from a range of fastballs, breaking balls, and changeups combined with precise location targeting, while the batting mechanic requires split-second timing to connect with pitches using standard swings or the high-risk, high-reward 'clutch' power swing. Fielding is streamlined with responsive automatic positioning and manual throw controls to nail base runners at home plate. The visual style uses oversized, chunky character sprites that capture the arcade's signature look despite the Game Gear's smaller color palette and screen resolution.
