Description

You control Mappy, a police-mouse whose job is to collect valuables (consumer electronics) from a cat’s house. You are being pursued by a gang of five pink cats. Doors are your only defense against the cats. You get from floor to floor by jumping on one of the trampolines.

Points are earned by recovering stolen goods. Other ways of earning points are bouncing on a trampoline, putting cats in the microwave, striking a cat with a door, striking cats with a bell, retrieving a treasure from the Boss cat Goro or dropping cats through a hole in the floor.

Mappy

Overview & History

Released by Namco in 1993, this Game Gear adaptation brings the classic 1983 arcade coin-op to Nintendo's handheld system. You step into the shoes of Mappy, a brave police mouse on a mission to infiltrate the sprawling mansion of the infamous Nyan-kos (Meowky) gang and recover stolen loot. While retaining the core charm of the original, this portable version modifies the vertical aspect ratio to fit the Game Gear screen, creating a uniquely claustrophobic, scrolling maze experience.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Mappy navigates a multi-story mansion strictly by running left and right along platforms and bouncing dynamically on specialized trampoline cords. Players must dodge the pursuing cats while collecting stolen items like televisions, radios, and paintings. Timing is everything: bouncing too many times on a single trampoline without touching a solid floor causes it to flash red and snap, plunging Mappy to his doom. Defensive tools are limited; players can trigger flashing microwave doors on each level to stun nearby felines with a localized sonic blast, clearing a path for a frantic escape.
