But, stay cool and you can rule. Just find your bike and you can go where you like. The rule is cool. Remember a cool cat is just… TOO COOL TO FOOL!

Chester Cheetah: Too Cool to Fool

Overview & History

Released in 1992 by Kaneko and published by Sunsoft, Chester Cheetah: Too Cool to Fool brought the suave, sunglasses-wearing mascot of Frito-Lay to the 16-bit Sega Genesis platform. Unlike its Super Nintendo counterpart, this Genesis iteration features distinct level designs and graphical assets, capturing the whimsical early-90s advertising aesthetic. The storyline kicks off at a shady cool-school gymnasium where the nefarious Mean Eugene has stolen Chester's prized sunglasses and ripped up his VIP pass to the Cool Pool. Players must guide the orange feline through bizarre, hazard-filled environments to recover his missing shades and restore his undeniable street cred.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The game plays out as a side-scrolling platformer divided into surreal stages like a circus-themed nightmare and a sewer system. Chester relies on his signature attitude and a rather peculiar arsenal: he collects paw prints to boost his score and hurls explosive, fizzing soda bottles at pesky enemies. Navigating the stages requires precise platforming, as Chester must dodge robotic mice, bouncing balls, and hazards while sliding down ropes and bouncing off trampolines. Periodically, players transition into fast-paced vehicle stages where Chester pilots a makeshift scooter, forcing split-second jumps over obstacles to survive the chaotic trek.
