Description

The world of Bahamut is divided into eight powerful countries. Four of them are ruled by humans or human-like creatures, while the other four are under control of evil demonic forces. The countries wage war with each other, each trying to dominate the others. Your task is to choose one of those countries and to make it the most powerful one in Bahamut, conquering the others and defeating their lords.

Bahamut Senki is a turn-based strategy war game. In the beginning of each turn, you can make your leader perform several actions, such as recruit soldiers, declare war, or establish yourself in the region by diplomatic talks with other leaders. In battles, you control several units of soldiers or magical creatures you can summon to help you out.

Bahamut Senki

Overview & History

Released exclusively in Japan in 1991 by Use Corporation for the Sega Genesis, Bahamut Senki is a wildly ambitious, highly unconventional hybrid of real-time strategy, grand simulation, and side-scrolling action. Set in a desolate, post-apocalyptic fantasy world where humanity has fallen into a primitive dark age, the game chronicles an epic multi-faction war for global dominance. Players can choose to align with one of four distinct factions—each representing different ideologies, races, and combat philosophies battling for supremacy over the continent of Ogres. Unlike standard linear action games of its era, Bahamut Senki allows you to alter the geopolitical landscape through diplomacy, troop deployment, and resource management before taking direct control of your commander on the battlefield to physically crush enemy battalions in side-scrolling skirmishes.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The gameplay loop is divided into two distinct phases: the strategic map phase and the tactical combat phase. On the strategic map, players command generals, move armies across territories, manage castle defenses, and initiate political negotiations or assaults against rival factions. Once an engagement begins, the game transitions into a side-scrolling action arena where your chosen commander and summoned units clash with the enemy army in real-time. Combat requires precise timing and tactical positioning. Character moves vary significantly based on your chosen class and deity alignment, ranging from heavy sword combos and polearm lunges to devastating area-of-effect elemental magic spells and ranged projectile volleys. Players must skillfully weave basic attacks with special maneuvers to break enemy morale, defeat opposing generals, and capture stronghold bases to expand their faction's territory.
