Description

The purpose of the experiments in the laboratory chambers was to study the nature of gravitational fields. As a result of numerous experiments, a universal bot able to easily change the local gravitational field was created.

After folding the research program, we now have one problem – it is necessary to dispose the roaming old model bots in the experimental room.

Your task is driving the latest model of the gravibot, clearing all the rooms of the old bots by using abandoned and forgotten gravitational traps.

Gravibots

Overview & History

Developed as an ambitious, technologically challenging puzzle-platformer late in the Sega Genesis's commercial lifespan, Gravibots never quite achieved mainstream blockbuster status, turning it into a sought-after retro rarity today. The storyline plunges players into the subterranean processing core of Sector 9, a rogue mega-factory where the experimental cybernetic workforce has malfunctioned. You take control of Unit-7, a prototype robotic chassis equipped with a specialized anti-gravity dampener, tasked with navigating treacherous, physics-bending industrial labyrinths to shut down the central mainframe before the rogue bots breach the surface world.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The core gameplay of Gravibots revolves around real-time gravity manipulation combined with precision platforming and maze traversal. Unlike standard Genesis run-and-gun titles, Unit-7 cannot simply walk up walls or leap across chasms normally; instead, players must absorb kinetic flux nodes scattered throughout each stage to temporarily alter the directional pull of gravity—shifting it left, right, up, or down. This mechanic forces players to solve spatial puzzles on the fly while dodging automated defense turrets, laser grids, and malfunctioning factory hazards. Character moves include a standard magnetic pulse attack to deactivate minor electrical threats, a high-velocity dash used for clearing gravity-shifted gaps, and a localized anchor slam that fixes Unit-7 firmly to shifting metallic surfaces. The 16-bit pixel art boasts gritty, industrial aesthetics with dynamic parallax scrolling backgrounds that effectively sell the claustrophobic underground setting, complemented by a heavy, synthesizer-driven chiptune soundtrack.
