Watch TAZ’s dust! That spinning superstar with the short fuse and gigantic appetite! TAZ whirls across Tasmania, hunting for the lost giant seabird egg to make the world’s largest omelet! TAZ gobbles up everything! Snacks like chilli peppers really burn up his enemies. The hungrier he is, the wilder he gets. Explosive TAZ blasts through 17 levels of high-energy adventure. He rides waterspouts, skids on ice and whizzes through mine shafts in a runaway cart! Villains from the Warner Bros. hit TV series join the mischief, including the Bush Rats, Francis X, Bushlad, Bull Gator and others.

Taz Mania

Overview & History

Released by Sega in 1992 for the 16-bit Mega Drive/Genesis, Taz-Mania translates the manic energy of Warner Bros.' Tasmanian Devil into a side-scrolling platformer. Developed by Interstate Software, the game plunges players into the Australian outback on a quest to find the legendary giant Boomerang. Unlike standard platformers of the era, the title captures the chaotic cartoon aesthetic through vibrant, frantic sprite work and level designs that reflect Taz's perpetually ravenous appetite. Players navigate multi-tiered environments filled with bizarre wildlife, angry aborigines, and treacherous terrain, all set to an upbeat, percussion-heavy soundtrack that mirrors the cartoon's iconic madness.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The core gameplay revolves around Taz's signature move: the spinning vortex. While players can walk and jump, the spin mechanic is essential for clearing long gaps, smashing through solid rock barriers, and defeating enemies. However, continuous spinning drains Taz’s stamina, forcing players to carefully manage momentum. Taz can also eat almost anything on screen—including chili peppers that grant temporary speed bursts, ticking time bombs, and various animals—to replenish health or trigger environmental interactions. Levels range from vertical minecart rides and scaling treacherous cliffs to dodging falling boulders in subterranean caves, demanding sharp reflexes and precise timing.
