Description

Falchion is an ace pilot in the Space Defense Force, and the pilot of a space ship known as Divine. On his way back to his home planet, daydreaming about girls, Divine’s computer picks up a transmission from a nearby planet. Answering the transmission, it turns out to be a distress call from a beautiful woman on the Water Planet. “Save me…” she pleads, “and I will lend you my power.” Falchion, lonely bachelor in space that he is, can’t say no to a pretty face, and flies off towards the Water Planet.

Divine Sealing is a basic vertically-scrolling shooter with adult content. The player controls the spaceship Divine, and shoots a variety of enemies. There are no bombs or powerups, but every 10,000 points the player is awarded with an extra life and a firepower upgrade. A boss appears at the end of each stage which must be destroyed. After defeating a boss, the player will meet up with one of four girls, who are then shown in various states of undress as Falchion “borrows their power”.

Divine Sealing

Overview & History

Released exclusively in Taiwan in 1994 by an unlicensed developer during the twilight years of the Sega Genesis, Divine Sealing (sometimes translated as Feng Shen Bang) stands as an ambitious mythological action-platformer. Loosely adapting the classic Chinese epic Investiture of the Gods, the game drops players into a turbulent era of ancient dynasties, warring immortals, and malevolent spirits. While it never received an official Western localization or a standard cartridge release outside of Asian regional markets, it has since achieved cult status among retro enthusiasts for its surprisingly lush sprite work, atmospheric chiptune orchestration, and unforgiving difficulty curve that rivals classic Castlevania titles.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Divine Sealing blends traditional side-scrolling platforming with fast-paced melee combat across five sprawling stages filled with traps, mythological beasts, and screen-filling bosses. Players alternate between two distinct heroes—each boasting unique traversal abilities and weapon classes. The primary protagonist wields a heavy enchanted broadsword capable of devastating close-range combos, while the secondary magic-user attacks from a distance using spiritual talismans and elemental projectile bursts. Along the way, players collect floating jade orbs to upgrade their primary weapon's reach and unleash screen-clearing spell attacks known as "Divine Decrees." The level design emphasizes verticality, requiring precise timing on crumbling platforms, rotating stone gears, and hazardous lava pits. Hidden chambers contain ancient relics that permanently increase maximum health, forcing players to thoroughly explore every eerie pagoda and clouded mountain peak.
