The core loop revolves around purchasing or leasing aircraft—ranging from classic prop planes like the Lockheed Constellation to supersonic Concordes—and establishing lucrative flight routes between global hubs. Success requires balancing ticket pricing, in-flight service quality, and advertising budgets to lure passengers away from up to three competing airlines. Players must also bid for increasingly scarce airport gates and landing slots, a mechanic that grows cutthroat as the simulation progresses. Random events such as the 1970s oil shocks, regional wars, economic recessions, and Olympic games drastically alter travel demand, forcing players to dynamically adapt their route maps, retire gas-guzzling jets, and secure emergency bank loans to stave off bankruptcy before the timer expires.
