Description

Rockman X3 is a pirated port of the game of the same name, made for the Mega Drive by Sankyo Fundship. There are two versions of this of this on the internet with slight differences between them, mostly due to stage music.

This game is a port of the Saturn version. Despite being a straight port, this game has many things missing from other versions, including the removal of Ride Armors, Toxic Seahorse and Blast Hornet, as well as some stages leading to the wrong place, like Doppler Fortress leading to a modified version of Volt Catfish’s stage instead. As well as this, all of the cutscenes from the original are missing and the rooms they take place in are empty.

Rockman X3

Overview & History

Released in 1998 as an unauthorized port of Capcom's Super Nintendo classic *Mega Man X3*, this rare Sega Genesis adaptation is a fascinating technical curio. Developed primarily for the Taiwanese and Brazilian markets by third-party bootleggers, it brings the Maverick Hunter saga to Sega's 16-bit console long after the system's commercial peak. The storyline follows X and Zero as they face a new threat: Dr. Doppler and his supposedly peaceful "Doppler Town," which has suddenly fallen victim to a resurrected Sigma virus. While lacking the official polish of the original SNES cartridge, this Genesis conversion impressively attempts to recreate the sprawling levels, intense boss battles, and armor-upgrade hunt of the 1995 original within the hardware constraints of the Mega Drive.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Players can switch between the veteran X and the sword-wielding Zero on the fly, though Zero's deployment is limited to one-time-use emergencies per stage against sub-bosses or specific hazards. X navigates eight distinct Maverick stages—battling bosses like Blizzard Buffalo and Toxic Seahorse—absorbing their weapons to exploit enemy weaknesses. Exploration remains a core pillar; hidden capsules grant access to the powerful Max Armor parts, enhancing X's dash, defense, and Charged X-Buster capabilities. The game retains the signature wall-sliding mechanics, agile dash maneuvers, and hidden chip upgrades, providing a surprisingly deep action-platforming challenge that stays true to the X-series formula despite compressed audio and altered visual assets.
