Shifting away from standard 16-bit action tropes, the game plunges players directly into the chaotic psyche of Jobe Smith as he evolves from a simple-minded gardener into a terrifying, god-like digital entity via virtual reality experimentation. The development team attempted to capture the movie's cyber-thriller aesthetic by incorporating digitized pre-rendered sprites and striking, pseudo-3D wireframe stages that simulated cyberspace navigation—a technical marvel for the Genesis hardware at the time. Platforming sections demand precision jumping, hanging from overhead conduits, and solving environmental hacking puzzles, making survival reliant on both quick reflexes and careful resource management.
