The oldest of the four Grand Slam tournaments, held in London on grass every July, is the basis for this tennis game. The ball comes off the grass surface fast and low, reflecting the surface’s reputation for providing the most exciting tennis. It’s viewed in the typical third person perspective, although with quite a distinct 3D effect and with shadows. You can play standard 1 or 2 player matches, or play the full tournament from the quarter-final stages onwards. You can play standard shots as well as lobs and drop shots, and full service rules are featured. You can select your character and build up their skills as the game progresses.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike its contemporaries, Wimbledon Championship Tennis introduces a distinct momentum and positioning engine. Players must carefully anticipate the ball's trajectory using a shadow indicator, as hitting the ball late results in a weak defensive lob or an out-of-bounds error. The game features multiple surface physics, making grass courts noticeably faster and lower-bouncing than hard courts, which drastically alters how aggressive serve-and-volley tactics work compared to baseline rallies. You can execute flat bullets, looping lobs, and sharp drop shots by timing your button presses in conjunction with directional inputs just as the ball makes contact. Stamina plays a crucial role; sprinting excessively to chase down wide shots drains your player's energy, leading to sluggish movement and unforced errors in later sets. The presentation mimics a television broadcast complete with umpire calls, net-cord interruptions, and distinct player attributes that dictate speed, power, and shot recovery.
