Power on! All systems go! Takeoff! Meet the alien attack head-on in your Super Fighter! Before the Gidans overrun your planet, destroy them in an explosive scramble in space! You are the one pilot alive with the guts to do it!

The Gidans have blown up your planet’s cargo barge and are on their way to Borogo with a swarm of flying fortresses — asteroids loaded with tanks, guns, and explosives for an all-points takeover.

Attack them face-to-face in your Super Fighter, the most powerful assault ship In the universe. Blast them to kingdom come with Power Shots. Fire the incredible Truxton Beam to disintegrate their speeding onslaught.

And when there’s no escape through their force fields, surprise them with the devastating Rainbow Circe Shot! Take on the Gidans in 5 separate battles of space carnage! You CAN save the planet!

Truxton

Overview & History

Released by Taito and ported to the Sega Genesis by Toaplan in 1989, Truxton (known in Japan as Tatsujin) is a punishing, vertically scrolling shoot 'em up that defined the brutal difficulty curve of the era. Set in a distant galaxy, the storyline follows the lone pilot, a stalwart defender piloting the Tatsujin ship, as he attempts to overthrow the evil dictator Doguyal and his relentless Gidans armada. Blending a heavy metal aesthetic with cosmic warfare, this Genesis port brought the intense arcade coin-op experience directly into living rooms, offering players an unforgiving, neon-drenched interstellar battlefield.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Truxton utilizes a frantic 6-stage vertical-scrolling framework where players obliterate biomechanical alien hordes. The core mechanic revolves around an iconic three-color power-up system: the Blue Laser, the wide-spreading Red Shot, and the devastating Green Skull. Collecting color cubes powers up your arsenal, filling the screen with chaotic firepower. Unlike many contemporaries, players also possess a limited supply of "Truxton" smart bombs that completely wipe out on-screen enemies and projectiles, serving as a vital lifesaver during chaotic boss encounters. Death instantly strips the ship of all power-ups, turning every respawn into a desperate scramble for survival.
