Super Sidekicks 3 has 64 player-selectable teams divided into eight geographical regions: Europe A, Europe B, Europe C, Asia A, Asia B, America, South America and Africa. Each region has eight national teams to select from, each ranked according to five attributes: speed, kicking power, technique, attack and defense.

After choosing their team, players can then choose to compete in either regional continental tournaments or in a world tournament against all the other national teams. Then players can select one of a number of power-ups before the game. Players can choose to have their entire team powered up, upgrade the team speed, defense, attack, technique or teamwork abilities, or apply power-ups to the star striker or goalkeeper.

Rather than aiming for hyper-realistic simulation, SNK crafted an adrenaline-fueled, arcade-style soccer spectacle defined by exaggerated animations, dramatic cutscenes for fouls and goals, and a fast-paced tempo that prioritizes pure entertainment over tactical micro-management.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard sports titles, *Super Sidekicks 3* relies on arcade mechanics where positioning, timing, and momentum dictate success. Players choose from 64 national teams categorized into regional groups, battling through regional preliminaries to reach the final tournament. The game introduces distinctive team characteristics, meaning squads from South America play with high technical flair, while European and African teams favor physical endurance and speed. Matches are dynamic and high-scoring, featuring a unique "Chance" system: when a player gets close to the penalty box, the camera shifts into a dramatic 3D-style perspective zoom, prompting an immediate opportunity for a one-touch header or spectacular volley. Referees are notably lenient unless tackles are severely mistimed, which triggers cinematic yellow or red card animations. Visually, the sprite work is exceptionally vibrant, showcasing wonderfully expressive player animations and detailed stadium backgrounds that capture the electric atmosphere of mid-90s international football.
