Description

Stakes Winner is a 2D horse racing game. Taking the role of horse jockeys, players must win a series of races using one of the game’s eight selectable horses. Each horse is rated in strength, speed, and stamina, making each horse different in handling. During the game, horse ratings can be boosted through completing bonus levels. Each horse has a stamina bar displayed at the bottom of the screen, next to a picture of the horse’s head showing its current health. The stamina bar decreases as the horse runs, and when it is depleted, the race is over for that horse.

Unlike passive betting games, you directly control the beast from a rear-angle perspective, weaving through packs of rivals, dodging hazards, and aggressively managing your stamina gauge to cross the finish line first.

The core gameplay relies on a frantic mix of positioning, timing, and item management. Each horse possesses distinct attributes in speed, stamina, and acceleration. During the race, riders can use a limited number of whips for sudden bursts of speed, but overuse risks exhausting the animal entirely. The track is littered with power-ups that spawn dynamically—collecting carrots restores stamina, wings grant temporary flight, and lightning bolts blast competing racers out of your way. Between races, players can invest prize money into stat upgrades. The game features an eccentric cast of characters, including the lightning-fast Golden Ship, the power-running Green Green, and unconventional jockeys wielding unique special moves that allow them to physically shove opponents or execute a desperate final-straight dash. The journey culminates in prestigious international cups, where precise cornering and strategic drafting behind the leader are vital for securing victory.
