Description

General Morden, the antagonist from the first game is back once more with his army, bent on taking over the world. It is up to the Peregrine Falcon squad, who are now joined by two new characters: Eri Kasamoto and Fiolina Germi of the Sparrows Intelligence Unit, to save the day.
As the levels unfold, it turns out that Morden has allied with Martians to help facilitate his plans. In the final level of the game, the tables are turned when Morden comes under attack and is betrayed by his Martian allies and taken prisoner by them. An ad-hoc alliance is formed between the Peregrine Falcon squad and General Morden’s army to combat the greater alien threat. After a long battle, they succeed in defeating the Martians’ Mothership, driving them off the Earth. Morden seems to have fallen from the ship, strapped to a solid iron plate. While his soldiers celebrate, the plate loses its balance and crushes him.

Metal Slug 2: Super Vehicle - 001/II

Overview & History

Released by SNK in 1998 for the Neo Geo AES hardware, Metal Slug 2: Super Vehicle - 001/II is the explosive, pixel-perfect sequel to one of arcade history's most beloved run-and-gun shooters. Set two years after the defeat of the villainous General Morden, players discover that Morden has formed a sinister alliance with an extraterrestrial menace plotting global domination. Returning heroes Marco, Tarma, Eri, and Fio must team up once again across six globetrotting stages—ranging from the pyramids of Egypt to the neon-drenched streets of a besieged city—to thwart this alien-human conspiracy. While the original game was celebrated for its fluid hand-drawn sprites and chaotic action, Metal Slug 2 expanded the franchise's lore with surreal sci-fi elements, branching pathways, and unforgettable enemy designs, despite suffering from notable hardware slowdowns that added an unintended layer of tactical chaos to frantic firefights.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Metal Slug 2 introduces groundbreaking gameplay mechanics that forever defined the series. Beyond the titular SV-001 tank, players can now pilot the **Slug Flyer** jet, the **Slug Gunner** mech, and even ride into battle atop a heavily armed camel. Character selection expands from two to four with the addition of Eri Kasamoto and Fio Germi, each retaining standard movement mechanics while utilizing distinct grenade throws and knife speeds. A brand-new transformation system adds incredible variety: picking up contaminated food items turns your soldier into a sluggish, projectile-vomiting **fat character** with amplified weapon damage, while certain enemy attacks can zap you into a slow-moving **mummy** who can only throw bombs and drink slow-acting antidote potions. Iconic firearms like the Heavy Machine Gun, Rocket Launcher, and the devastating **Laser Gun** return, accompanied by the newly introduced **Flame Shot**, which chars enemy infantry into crisp statues. POWs still provide crucial weapon upgrades and bonus points upon rescue, rewarding thorough exploration of every meticulously animated background.
