Description

Released in 1996, Pleasure Goal (Japanese title: Futsal) is Saurus’ first and only football (Soccer) game for the Neo Geo. It features 16 teams which compete for the “Saurus Cup”. Your team plays against all the others in your group, then it goes into an elimination tournament’s semifinals and then the final to win the cup. It’s worth mentioning that Pleasure Goal’s rules barely base on Futsal, which is basically a 5-on-5 player indoor soccer style.

Pleasure Goal: 5 on 5 Mini Soccer

Overview & History

Released by Saurus in 1996 for SNK’s powerful Neo Geo AES and MVS arcade hardware, Pleasure Goal: 5 on 5 Mini Soccer (known in Japan as Futsal: 5 on 5 Mini Soccer) is a vibrant, arcade-style sports title that infuses traditional association football with the over-the-top energy of a fighting game. Eschewing FIFA-style simulation, the game drops players into enclosed, vibrant indoor arenas with no out-of-bounds walls, fostering a frantic game of rebounds and non-stop momentum. Unlike standard sports games of its era, Pleasure Goal features a distinct anime-inspired aesthetic and lacks any official licensing, allowing the developers to invent bizarre, eccentric international teams—ranging from the high-flying acrobats of Team USA to the mystical martial artists of Team China. The game serves as a cult-classic relic of SNK’s mid-90s experimental sports catalog, celebrated for its chunky pixel art, pulsing synth soundtrack, and unapologetic arcade chaos.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard 11-a-side matches, Pleasure Goal operates on fast-paced indoor futsal rules where the ball constantly bounces off perimeter walls, keeping the action perpetually alive. The game employs a four-button arcade layout that separates delicate footwork from explosive maneuvers. Players can execute slide tackles, blistering one-touch passes, and curve shots, but the true depth lies in the unique super-shot meter. By building momentum through successful passes and aggressive defense, each team captain can unleash a devastating, screen-shaking special shot that leaves opposing goalies scorched in the back of the net. The roster is divided into distinct character archetypes—Speeders, Powerhouse Strikers, and Technicians—forcing players to master specific dribbling cadences and tactical positioning. Goalkeepers are controlled automatically, meaning defensive success relies entirely on timed interceptions and relentless zone-pressing.
