Description

The player chooses one of six planes or can opt for a random choice. The first four stages are in random order, while the last four are sequential. Players collect weapon powerups, bombs, and gold bars for points. Each plane has a unique “supershot” which is charged by damaging enemies and fired by holding then releasing the fire button. Supershots can be stored, although the number varies from plane to plane. Using a bomb results in a large friendly fighter swooping onto the screen and blocking shots while returning fire for a few seconds.

After the player beats the final boss, the game starts again from the beginning, albeit at a much higher difficulty level. All level are similar to the ones in Strikers 1945 II. Only one of the four bosses that are randomly chosen and the sixth boss is changed.

Originally developed by Psikyo and ported to SNK's powerful Neo Geo AES hardware in 1999, Strikers 1945 Plus is the definitive vertical-scrolling arcade shooter of the late nineties. While it shares a lineage with the classic 1995 arcade original, this Neo Geo iteration is a complete remix rather than a direct port. It introduces a brand-new widescreen aspect ratio that completely alters spatial dynamics, throwing players into an alternate post-World War II timeline. A rogue, Syndicate-like global military cabal known as C.A.N.D.Y. awakens an army of futuristic mechs, giant biomechanical insects, and aerial fortresses. It is up to the elite Strikers squad to pilot historic, heavily modified propeller and early-jet aircraft to dismantle the global conspiracy before a doomsday weapon is unleashed.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike its predecessor, Strikers 1945 Plus adds a playable roster of six distinct vintage planes, including the P-38 Lightning, Bf-109, and the newly added Flying Pancake, each boasting unique upgradeable main blasters, speed parameters, and explosive bomb attacks. The game introduces the signature 'Charge Shot' mechanic: holding down the primary fire button charges a powerful secondary barrage that drains a glowing meter, forcing players to balance defensive dodging with aggressive timing. As players weave through dense, chaotic bullet-hell patterns across eight relentless stages, defeating glowing red mini-bosses yields power-ups that escalate firepower, spawn option drones, and grant critical gold bar bonuses. The iconic bomb mechanic doesn't just clear the screen; it summons massive historical backup craft—ranging from B-17 bombers to V-2 rockets—that decimate surrounding formations.
