Description

There are 8 characters to select from and two boss characters (the first boss character is only playable in two player mode). The object of the game is to win two matches out of three. Each character has a set of moves in addition to two basic punches and kicks. Each character also has a super move called a “Danger Move”, which are similar to the Desperation Moves from Fatal Fury 2. Players also have the ability to taunt others, but unlike games such as Art of Fighting, this has no effect and would actually leave the player open to attacks.

Fight Fever

Overview & History

Released by Vic Tokai in 1994 for the Neo Geo MVS and AES systems, Fight Fever (originally known as Korea Tae Kwon Do in its homeland) holds a unique place in fighting game history as one of the earliest titles to prominently feature Korean martial arts. Developed during the post-Street Fighter II boom, the game attempts to carve out a distinct identity by blending traditional 2D sprite-based brawling with deep historical roots, featuring characters inspired by real-world martial arts disciplines. Though it was initially overlooked in Western arcades due to stiff competition from SNK and Capcom heavyweights, the AES home version has since become a fascinating cult classic for retro collectors and fighting game historians seeking obscure arcade relics.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Fight Fever utilizes a standard four-button layout inherited from the Neo Geo hardware, mapping light and heavy punches and kicks. The defining mechanical gimmick of the game is its incorporation of a "P-Gauge" (Power Gauge) system, which fills as players execute special moves or absorb damage from opponents. Once charged, fighters can unleash devastating desperation moves akin to SNK's iconic Super Special Moves. The roster includes memorable combatants like the Tae Kwon Do master Han Baek and the capoeira practitioner Nick, each equipped with distinct projectile attacks, rushing blitzes, and multi-hit aerial combos. The pacing is notably frantic, demanding precise execution for buffering special inputs like quarter-circle and charge motions.
