A sequel to Sengoku, Sengoku 2 once again casts you as two street fighting heroes caught in the midst of a supernatural attack by the undead forces of the evil Nobunaga from the Japanese sengoku period, although this time the game warps you through several time periods and locations to fight evil, from feudal Japan to WWII Europe.

As in the original, the game plays as a standard 2D side-scrolling beat ’em up, in which you have to proceed through each stage killing all enemies that cross your path and defeating the stage boss to proceed. New for the sequel is the inclusion of swords as your default weapons, which now feature both high and low attacks, as well as a block move that allows you to parry enemy attacks. Collecting orbs gives you weapon upgrades and energy attacks, as well as the ability to morph into any of the three spirits released in the original which give you a new arsenal of moves and powers

Released by SNK in 1993 for the Neo Geo AES and MVS arcade hardware, Sengoku 2 (known in Japan as Sengoku Densyo 2) stands as a distinct evolution of the side-scrolling beat-'em-up genre. Following the bizarre, dark-fantasy folklore of its predecessor, this sequel transports players centuries into the future to battle the resurrected warlord Oda Nobunaga, who has conquered multiple historical eras. Unlike the first game's urban setting, Sengoku 2 embraces pure feudal Japanese warfare fused with cybernetic mysticism. Players hack and slash their way through burning castles, ancient forests, and floating dimensions, accompanied by a heavy metal soundtrack that contrasts wonderfully with the traditional aesthetic.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike the original title, Sengoku 2 introduces a streamlined character selection where you no longer swap heroes on the fly; instead, you choose one of three distinct warriors at the start: a traditional samurai, a nimble ninja, or a heavy-hitting warrior monk, each armed with unique reach, speed, and magic meters. A standout mechanical addition is the weapon system—picking up swords, spears, or bows temporarily replaces your standard fist attacks and grants devastating screen-clearing combos. Furthermore, players can still absorb glowing orbs to transform temporarily into powerful supernatural beings, such as a fierce wolf or a legendary samurai ghost, capable of decimating waves of armored samurai, undead archers, and mechanical demons.
