Description

The game takes place in a future where gasoline powered vehicles and paved roads have been replaced with electromagnetic vehicles and metal highways. Such vehicles are used for intense racing where vehicles could drive on bending, twisting tracks. The player has the option to have automatic or manual assistance on using their vehicle’s magnets to drive on higher areas. The player could also use power-ups against other opponents picked up from the tracks. Race tracks included Moscow, Mars, Hawaii, the Himalayas, Needle Rock and the Orbital Wharf space station.

Killer Loop

Overview & History

Developed by Vicious Cycle Software and published in 1999, Killer Loop is a high-octane futuristic racing game that debuted on arcade hardware before finding its way to home consoles. Set in the 22nd century, the storyline revolves around an underground blood-sport where pilots race heavily armed, hovering anti-gravity craft through hazardous subterranean circuits. Unlike traditional racers, Killer Loop emphasizes lethal combat, demanding that players master both physics-defying maneuvers and devastating offensive weaponry to survive the brutal tracks.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

The core gameplay loop centers on high-speed antigravity racing combined with vehicular combat. Players choose from a diverse roster of futuristic pilots, each commanding a distinct ship equipped with unique speed, armor, and handling stats. Races take place on twisting, loop-heavy tracks filled with magnetic strips that allow ships to drive upside down and vertically along walls. Combat is integrated directly into the racing mechanics; players collect weapon power-ups scattered across the tarmac to unleash plasma cannons, guided missiles, and proximity mines against rival racers. Boosting at precise moments fills your special energy meter, enabling a temporary overdrive that lets you carve through tight corners and ram opponents into track barriers.
