It was released in late 1995 and early 1996 depending on region and video game console, initially being released for the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo, before being ported to many other consoles.

Earthworm Jim 2

Overview & History

Released in 1995 by Shiny Entertainment, Earthworm Jim 2 burst onto the arcade and console scene as a wildly imaginative, surreal platformer that pushed the boundaries of 16-bit animation and bizarre humor. Following the massive success of the original cult-classic hit, this sequel elevated the chaotic adventures of everyone's favorite suit-wearing annelid. Jim must once again rescue his beloved Princess-What's-Her-Name from the clutches of the villainous Psy-Crow, who has notoriously crashed their wedding. While primarily celebrated for its Sega Genesis and SNES origins, experiencing this classic via arcade emulation captures the fast-paced, coin-op energy of its frantic mini-game stages and laugh-out-loud slapstick comedy.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike standard platformers, Earthworm Jim 2 thrives on absurd variety. Levels drastically shift in genre, forcing players to adapt from traditional run-and-gun action to navigating a blind cave system as a squishy, defenseless blind salamander, guiding floating explosive piggies, or playing a bizarre game of true-or-false trivia against Psy-Crow. Jim's signature moves are delightfully eccentric: he can use his own headless body as a helicopter rotor, whip enemies with his segmented pink whip-hand, and wield a bizarre arsenal of weaponry ranging from the standard Plasma Blaster to the homing Barn Blaster and the infamous Snot Sword. The detailed, hand-drawn animation style mirrors a Saturday morning cartoon, making every chaotic level a visual treat filled with hidden Easter eggs and eccentric environmental hazards.
