Description

Women’s Professional Billiard Association’s star sensation Jeanette Lee teams up with developer Celeris, Inc. to create the third installation of the Virtual Pool series by publisher Interplay. Featuring a new single player mode and online gaming capabilities to accommodate multiplayer action over a LAN or a modem, Virtual Pool 3 Featuring Jeanette Lee continues the tradition that made previous installments a commercial success.

The game offers numerous game modes from which to choose, including a career mode that allows you to begin as a local player and move up through six stages on the proverbial success ladder. You can also play head-to-head against Jeanette Lee (aka “Black Widow”), adjust camera angles, set up shots, play in a tournament with 4, 8, 16 or 32 players and choose from 9-ball, 8-ball, straight pool and several other game configurations.

Virtual Pool 3

Overview & History

Developed by Celeris and released in 2000, Virtual Pool 3 remains a landmark title in the genre, revered for its uncannily realistic physics engine. While the core franchise is famous for its comprehensive PC simulation, the 'Arcade' iteration strips away the exhaustive tournament progression in favor of fast-paced, quarter-munching action. Players dive straight into structured exhibition matches, trick-shot challenges, and head-to-head multiplayer bouts without tinkering with chalk types or cue weights. It bridges the gap between deep simulation and pick-up-and-play arcade accessibility, offering a streamlined experience where mastering spin, speed, and english on the cue ball is the ultimate key to conquering the virtual felt.

Gameplay Features & Mechanics

Unlike its sprawling PC counterpart, the Arcade version of Virtual Pool 3 focuses on quick-fire matches across standard rule sets including 8-Ball, 9-Ball, and Straight Pool. The physics engine is the true star here, accurately calculating rail rebounds, squirt, throw, and cluster splits with mathematical precision. Players choose their desired pocket, line up their shot using a dual-axis aiming reticle, and pull back on a power meter to execute the stroke. Advanced players can adjust the cue-ball contact point to apply heavy draw, follow, or side-spin, manipulating the white ball's trajectory to set up subsequent shots. The arcade environment is brought to life with ambient pool-hall sounds, clacking ivory, and a sleek, high-contrast HUD designed for rapid decision-making.
